My relationship with yoga is complicated. I love my practice. I am erratic at my practice. Sometimes I think I can’t do anything right. This, I think, means I am starting to get into the nitty gritty of what yoga is all about.
I am pleased to share with you my latest Kickstarter project, The Adventure Book of Strong Women! This new book is an art and coloring book with bonus comic to celebrate women doing adventurous things for themselves!
I've been working on the concept and illustrations for this book for over a year. I play a lot of board games, RPG's like Pathfinder and Dungeons & Dragons, watch adventure and sci-fi movies and have always been pretty disappointed in the way women have been depicted. Skinny, cute side-kick with nothing to do? Check. Sexy warrior in barely-there clothing? Check. Sexy nerd that is only a nerd because she is wearing glasses? Check.
I figured the only way I was going to see the type of women I wanted to see: strong, smart, a variety of sizes and sexual orientations, motivation without the male-gaze---well, I was going to have to make it myself.
The book will be softcover, 10" x 10", approx 95 pages with 40 full page images accompanied by character blurbs. Also included is a bonus 8 page comic featuring my newest characters trying to rescue a princess from a dragon, but there's a twist of course. The comic will grow in scope depending on stretch goals within the Kickstarter Project. Also, backers will have the opportunity to vote on additional kick-ass lady content.
Copies of the book will start at $22 with digital content available for $12 plus opportunities for buying original artwork from the book, a commissioned drawing and even a chance to help design your own character in the book!
So check out The Adventure Book of Strong Women on Kickstarter. I'll be sharing more and more images as the deadline for funding draws near. Look forward to seeing you on the other side!
New year, new resolutions, right? A few years ago, a friend introduced me to the idea of a theme for the year and I've been making a theme ever since: create, strength, etc. Then, you take that theme and think how your resolutions relate to it.
This year I wanted to do things a little bit differently. I knew I wanted a theme. At first, I thought that 'uprooted' might be a good theme. The more I thought about it, however, the more I thought it was a bit negative. I wanted a positive twist to my theme.
I decided 'rooted' was a better word to explain what I was trying to get at. I want to be rooted in my beliefs and goals, to know that they are already a part of me, not something new, like a shiny new shirt or fancy new housewares. And I decided I needed to draw it out in my bullet journal.
I listed words at the bottom roots of my tree as the base of all my ideas and goals for the year. Then, I added actions and ideas that related to each of my main roots. Now I see this as a more holistic approach to planning my year. I can always look back and see if I am living the words.
And you can too! I created a PDF of my Rooted Resolution Tree and you are welcome to download it and print it out and color it and create your own manifestation of your new year. Have fun!
My corgi, Oskar, likes to sleep in strange positions.
Have you seen Wonder Woman yet? I saw it opening night and loved it. Strong woman, check. Humor, check. Saving the world, check. No spoilers but the "No Man's Land" scene was the best. Fun fun fun and I made a new coloring sheet to celebrate! So head over to my Fantasy and RPG Coloring Page and print out your own strong Wonder Woman mermaid to color yourself!
Some of us CLAW artists have made prints to sell the whole month of June at Destiny City. For every print sold, we are donating $1 to the Tacoma/Pierce County YWCA! We will also have door prizes and asking attendees to vote on their favorite pieces.
I will be also handing out free coloring sheets! It's a Wonder Woman win-win!
Hope to see you there!
